To improve certain properties of organic adhesives (such as dry/wet adhesion, mechanical properties, storage stability, heat resistance, moisture resistance, weather resistance, etc.), or to reduce the cost of organic adhesives, it is often necessary to add some inorganic fillers to the adhesive. If the filler is pre treated with silane coupling agent, the polar groups on the surface of the filler react chemically with the silane coupling agent, greatly reducing the structural interaction between the filler and the resin. This not only greatly improves the compatibility and dispersion of the filler with the adhesive matrix resin, but also significantly reduces the viscosity of the system, thereby increasing the amount of filler used. However, not all fillers treated with coupling agents are effective. Different types of fillers have varying effects, and some may even be completely ineffective. For fillers with a large number of hydroxyl groups on the surface such as glass, silica, and alumina, the effect is best, while for fillers without hydroxyl groups on the surface such as calcium carbonate and graphite, it is completely ineffective. Silanes commonly used in the adhesive industry include CY-550, CY-792, CY-570, CY-560, CY-171, etc.
