In the plastic and rubber industry, the unique properties of silane are used to improve performance and process performance. Silane serves as a coupling agent and dispersant for fillers in rubber and plastic formulations, a polymerization modifier to improve regularity in polypropylene synthesis, and a crosslinking agent to increase crosslinking points in the synthesis of polyethylene homopolymers and copolymers.

1. Rubber mixing

Due to the benefits of using inorganic fillers instead of carbon black in reinforced rubber, silane has been widely used in the organic rubber industry. Compared to using carbon black, white carbon black and other inorganic fillers used to enhance rubber can give rubber unique and more beneficial physical and mechanical properties. However, in order for non carbon black reinforced fillers to work, silane coupling agents must be used. The use of silane is a key factor in effectively combining inorganic fillers with organic elastomers. Rubber products filled with silane coupling and mineral fillers can be used to manufacture automobiles, tires, shoe soles, belts, hoses, and other mechanical products. Silanes commonly used in rubber include CY-590, CY-550, CY-560, CY-171, etc.

2. Plastic formula

Used for cross-linking polyethylene to manufacture insulation and protective materials for wires and cables: In an extruder containing peroxides heated to an appropriate temperature, ethylene groups will be grafted onto the polyethylene main chain, producing silane modified polyethylene containing trialkoxymethylsilyl side chains. Polyethylene connected to ethylene groups undergoes crosslinking in the presence of a catalyst, water, and heating, resulting in silane cross-linked products. Silanes commonly used in plastic formulations include CY-171, CY-151, CY-172, etc.

Used for cross-linking polyethylene to produce heat-resistant pipes, hoses, and films. Crosslinked polyethylene has excellent properties such as resistance to aromatics, oil, stress cracking, high mechanical strength, and good heat resistance. It can be used as an anti-corrosion and thermal insulation outer protective layer for oil long-distance pipelines, natural gas, gas pipelines, etc., as well as a matching anti-corrosion and thermal contraction sleeve joint material. It can also be used for civil residential water supply pipes, hot water pipelines, and other cross-linked products.
